Investigating and infiltrating nefarious groups online for intel on anything from national security to fraud activity and threat intelligence is both necessary and risky. This session invites attendees to share their best and worst efforts to permeate the bad guys’ territory – what works well, what backlash have they seen, and how to improve the ways we engage with adversaries.
Who: Lance Cottrell, Chief Scientist, Ntrepid
Lance Cottrell is a well-known expert on security, privacy, anonymity, misattribution and cryptography, and is the principal author on multiple internet anonymity and security technology patents. In 1995, Lance founded Anonymizer, which was acquired by Ntrepid (then Abraxas) in 2008. Anonymizer’s technologies form the core of Ntrepid’s internet misattribution and security products. As Chief Scientist, Lance continues to push the envelope with the new technologies and capabilities required to stay ahead of rapidly evolving threats.
Lance holds an M.S. in physics from University of California, San Diego and a B.S. in physics from University of California, Santa Cruz. He is on the board of the North Bay Angels, Healdsburg Sunrise Rotary, and Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County.
