Overview

Ntrepid is looking for an IT System Engineer to help build and maintain a diverse group of applications and servers in a virtual environment. This is a highly visible, fast-paced position that touches different technology and user groups. Responsibilities

  • Must be able to take ownership of IT projects – develop and follow a strategy, understand the scope, communicate with administrators and users, ensure the schedule is followed, and report back to leadership
  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers, engineers, or vendors to implement those fixes
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level support
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • After hours availability for incident response and change requests
  • Able to communicate appropriately with a technically diverse audience
  • Willing to document and train Support Specialists for tier 1 & tier 2 support for systems

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting Linux based virtualized environments.
  • Solid experience in the administration and support of corporate production tools and services
  • Some cloud experience, preferably AWS
  • Some datacenter experience preferred
  • 3+ years experience with supporting large and distributed infrastructure
  • 3+ years experience with virtualization (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box)
  • 5+ years experience with Linux administration (Debian, Ubuntu preferred)
  • 3+ years experience with monitoring systems (e.g. zabbix, cacti, splunk)
  • 3+ years experience with automation software (e.g., Ansible, CFengine, Salt)
  • Solid scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Python)
  • Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
